Bede naar Ps. 121 : 7 en 8

          Bede naar Ps. 121 : 7 en 8

Wij zijn genaderd tot de grens
Van t' oude en t'nieuwe jaar
Wij hebben Vader deze wens
Behoed ons in gevaar.

Want dat gevaar is levensgroot
Uw vijand scherpt zijn pijlen Heer
O, sterk uw Kerk in deze nood
t'Gaat om uw Koningseer

Wij komen Vader naar U toe
Met onze moeite en pijn
O, doe ons toch, schier strijdensmoe
meer dan verwinnaars zijn?

O, Vader hoedt onz in gevaren
Schraag ons door uw erbarmen
Wil door Uw Almacht ons bewaren
Draag ons op eeuw'ge armen

Wilt U ons by de uitgang leren
Op U alleen te zien
En wil ons Heer der Heren
Bij d'ingang hulpe biên.

This poem originally written on the occasion of a New Year's Eve, struck me today with the funeral just now of Br. Gar VanWeerden.  In the service, Rev. VanWoudenberg preached on Ps 121:7,8, and the prayer in this poem is pertinent to he journey we are all on.
May God bless the VanWeerden family, and all who knew him with the loss, but also with the comfort that he has completed his journey, and is with his Father in heaven.

I thought it would be good in this case to also give a quick translation:

          Prayer after Ps. 121 : 7 and 8

We are currently close to the change
From the old year to the new
We have this desire Father
Save us in danger.

Because that danger looms large
Your enemy sharpens his arrows Lord
Oh, strengthen your church in this
Your royal Honour is at stake.

We come to You Father
With our trouble and pain
Oh, can we still, though battle weary
be more than conquerors?

Oh, Father keep us in the midst of dangers
Uphold us by your mercy
Keep us by Your might
Carry us in everlasting arms

Teach us at this exit of the old
To only look to You
And would You, Lord of Lords
Grant guidance by the entrance of the new.
